If you’re lucky enough to have little kids in your life – cousins, nieces & nephews, baby brothers or sisters – you’ll know that there’s a special magic to childhood. Capturing that magic as a Lifestyle Family Photographer is always a treat, especially when I’m photographing a family as full of life and verve as the Browns.
Knowing that it had been a long time between family portraits and that her upcoming birthday was the perfect excuse, Sally contacted me before one of my trips to Australia to line something up. She said, ‘I love the natural stuff, but I wouldn’t mind some posed photos as well’.
As much as I’m a Documentary & Lifestyle Family Photographer first & foremost, I couldn’t agree with her more. The beautiful in-between moments as the kids run into shots or plop themselves in the creek might be my favourites, but I know that the photos of the four of them will make their way onto the fridges of relatives and into albums to be looked back on in years to come. After all, I’ve had a similar photo of myself and my three brothers as my phone background for 3 years!
We locked it in and made plans to head out to one of their favourite bush walks near Roleystone. With sloping granite rocks, a rollicking creek and lively Australian bushland, it was the perfect location for their Family Photos. While Sally & Josh are both easygoing, their two little ones are anything but. Joash & Abigail wanted nothing more than to throw themselves into the creek and splash water as far as they possibly could. We convinced them at first that they were there to spend some time with Mum & Dad before letting the two of them run wild.
Check out a few of my favourites from our Roleystone Family Photography session below, and if it’s time for your family to have their portraits taken – analogue or digital and wherever in the world – you can contact me here!
PS. If you’re based in Perth, I’m heading home around mid-November to mid-December. I have a few sessions free, but get in quick as spots are limited!
